Media of the Future

Media of the future, where is it and where is it taking us?

Traditional media still has a slight grasp of popularity due to familiarity. As history tells us, humans do not like change. As a cable installer for the past 8 years and having the opportunity to work in various parts of the country, I have come to realize that people prefer simple. The old broadcast model of one-to-many still exists in forms of news broadcasts over the internet, radio, and television. These traditional forms of media are just that, Simple! Turn a television or radio on and you can have your daily dose of your preferred station. Web 2.0 and modern technology have somewhat proven to be difficult for some users. We also have to consider information overload and knowing which information is credible. Many internet subscribers over the years have displayed discomfort when it comes to navigating sites. Many who are used to the traditional methods are extremely weary of identity theft. Even for professionals such as myself who browse with ease seek simplicity. I have a list of usernames and passwords taped to the back of my computer desk for 25+ online accounts for school, work, leisure, bill payments, etc. Taking this into mind, we must ask ourselves. Where is social media going? Im going out on a limb here but Google and Facebook have pretty much dominated modern web plus they have the resources and clientele to back a major merge.  Also, when you take into account the launch of apps for everything, it would not be surprising if a merge were to integrate two very familiar sites with the use of apps and a standard operating procedure for all users. When considering Apps in the future, think about South Africa. They’re answer to their economic crisis is to deploy the use of App and online gaming designers in order to bring revenue into their economy. The beauty of Apps when considering their place in our future is their ease of use. Just imagine the power of Google networked with Facebook that has the simplicity of Apps. I know many of my elderly customers could appreciate simplicity in an ever changing technology driven society.
